Little Andy

      Andy Warhol was born on August 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was the fourth child of Ondrej Warhola (American Translation- Andrew Warhol) and Julia Warhol. Andy's parents were work-class Lemko emigrants from Mikóvá (Located in northeastern Slovakia). He had 2 older brothers named Pavol (Paul) and Ján. Andrew and Julia's first child died before they moved to the US. His father immigrated to the US in 1914, and his mother joined him in 1921. After Andy's grandparents death, his father worked in a coal mine. Their family address was 55 Beelan Street. Later, they moved to 3252 Dawson Street in the Oakland neighborhood. In the third grade, Andy had St.Vitus Dance, the nervous system disease that caused involuntary movements of the extremities. He had hypochondriac, a development of fear of hospitals and doctors. He was an outcast and was bonded to his mother and at times, he confined himself to bed, drew, listened to the radio, and collected pictures of movie stars around his bed. When Andy was 13, his father died in an accident. He graduated from Schenley High School in 1945 and after graduating, he started to study art. He hoped to become a art teacher but his plan changed and he entered in Carnegie Institue of Technology where he studied commercial art. He served as an art director of the student art magazine, Cano and, illustrating  cover in 1948.
